Lockdown Everest

May 19, 2020

Well, it’s been a strange year so far to say the least (thanks Covid-19).

To keep active during lockdown, keep our daughter occupied, and to raise some money for the Butterwick Hospice I set myself the challenge of carrying Lizzy up the equivilent of Mount Everest at home (8,848 metres / 3,404 flights of stairs / 44,240 steps).

Lizzy is 9.5 months old now and weighs approximately 10kg. Beyond simply carrying a 10kg weight up the height of Everest, this ‘Lizzyweight’ was prone to being sick on me, soiling herself on me, throwing tantrums (including hitting me in the face), all while being the most precious cargo in the world meaning I’ve needed to be extra cautious with every step… just to make the challenge a little more ‘challenging’ :).

We set a goal of 3 weeks to complete this challenge as this meant we walking up the Empire State Building (approximately) every day. I’m proud to report that we were successful and completed the challenge on day 21, Sunday 17th May.

If you would like to donate to the Butterwick Hospice you can find the fundraising webpage on Just Giving.
