Industrial Design: Marine Application Guides
Feb 05, 2026
Some weeks I’m building custom AI integrations and interfaces. Other weeks I’m creating technical diagrams of oil tankers and mapping protective coatings across marine vessels. This is why I love being self-employed.
I’ve been working with Resimac on a series of A4 tri-fold application guides for their industrial protective coatings business. These guides break down where and how their products are used across different sectors – in this case, the marine industry.
The Brief
The goal was straightforward: create a clear overview that industry professionals can actually use. No marketing BS, just concise information about product applications for the marine sector, visualised by an oil tanker. The guide needed to work both as a printed reference and eventually as interactive graphics on their website.
The Approach
We opted for a large-format technical illustration spread across the three panels. The ship profile runs the length of the guide, with labeled sections breaking down different application areas: Engine Room, Structure & Ballast Tanks, Bow Structure & Deck Equipment, Propulsion, and Accommodation Area.
Each section includes specific products and their applications – everything from heat exchangers and separators to drinking water tanks and ballast tanks. The illustration style is technical but clean, detailed enough to be taken seriously by industry professionals without becoming cluttered.
Strategic use of color helps different sections stand out. That Resimac green against black, white, and industrial orange keeps things visually interesting while maintaining the technical focus.
Looking Ahead
This is one guide in a series covering different industrial sectors. Eventually, these will be converted into interactive graphics for the Resimac website, allowing users to explore applications with additional layers of detail and product specifications.
It’s a different kind of project from the usual web development and branding work, but that variety is exactly what makes self-employment interesting. One week it’s AI, the next it’s industrial coatings. Keeps things fresh.
