5 jQuery Plugins For Every Website

July 6, 2009

In the last couple of years jQuery has worked its way into being a resource designers and developers integrate into every web project. Here’s 5 plugins that should be used on every website.

Lightbox Plugin

Any site that has an image (or media) gallery needs a lightbox. A brilliant way to display images that is easy to implement and is intuitive for the user. My personal preference is the balupton edition as it automatically resizes depending on the users screen resolution.

Sliding Content Panel

Probably the best method to use for a simple contact or log-in form. It is easy to put in an include file to implement it on every webpage.

Accordion / Menu

The accordion is ideal for sidebars, menus and virtually any section that involves lists such as an FAQs page.

Background Position

The background position plugin is a great way to add some simple animation to your website and give it some impact. It is quick and simple too add new CSS elements while being easy to edit.

Coda Slider

Although they didn’t create the plugin the software company Panic / Coda will forever be associated with the effect. If you are creating a microsite or your webpage has a large amount of content you will find the Coda Slider invaluable

Great plugins. I would take issue with two points:

1: “on every website” - surely only if there’s a need for them - adding features without a requirement is pointless.

2: It is important to make sure that there is a non JS fallback for SEO if nothing else.

    Hi Rob.

I agree with you on both points it is important the website is accessable to all users. Regarding point no.1 I was being creative with the blog title :o)

Good good, I didn’t think you were the sort of designer to use a feature that wasn’t needed!
